New 2023 versions of ASCIA Action Plans for Anaphylaxis 

New 2023 versions of ASCIA Action Plans for Anaphylaxis

The 2023 versions of ASCIA Action Plans for Anaphylaxis, ASCIA First Aid Plans for Anaphylaxis, Travel Plan for people at risk of anaphylaxis, Action Plan for Allergic Reactions and Action Plan for Drug (Medication) Allergy  have now been finalised and are available on the ASCIA website.

The changes to improve ease of use are the first major formatting updates since ASCIA Action Plans were introduced in 2003. Read more here

A new ASCIA Laboratory Tests for Autoimmune Diseases Position Paper has been developed to provide an overview of the role of laboratory tests for autoimmune diseases. These tests are used in combination with a patient’s detailed clinical history, physical examination and other investigations.

   
Updated ASCIA Treatment Plan for Allergic Rhinitis 

Updated ASCIA Treatment Plan for Allergic Rhinitis

In response to multiple requests, updates have been made to the ASCIA Treatment Plan for Allergic Rhinitis. These include additional wording about thunderstorm asthma, inclusion of eye drops or ointments and a link for further information and animation videos. The turquoise colour has been changed to gold, to make it consistent with the ASCIA immunotherapy plans.

Updated ASCIA Guide for Milk Substitutes in Cow’s Milk Allergy

The ASCIA Guide for Milk Substitutes in Cow’s Milk Allergy has been updated to state that Alfaré®, an extensively hydrolysed infant formula (eHF) is being discontinued and will cease to be available in Australia from late 2023. The ASCIA Guide can be used to find suitable alternatives to Alfaré®.

Alfaré® should be available until early November 2023. Contact Nestlé Health Science on 1800 671 628 for information about supply of Alfaré®.

Updated ASCIA Fast Facts for patients and carers

Updated ASCIA Fast Facts on 20 topics are now available. ASCIA Fast Facts have provided concise, reliable and easy to read information about allergies, immunodeficiencies and autoimmunity since they were first developed in 2019. They have been reviewed and updated in 2023 to ensure that plain language is used where possible, and links to patient and carer support organisations are included at the top of each document.  

Each of the 20 ASCIA Fast Facts webpages include ReadSpeaker to improve accessibility and provide translated information.

Updated ASCIA Dietary Guides for Food Allergy and EoE

ASCIA Dietary Guides for Food Allergy and ASCIA Dietary Guides for Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE 2FED and EoE 4FED) have been updated, with links to patient and carer support organisations included at the top of each document and new headers.

Each of the 13 ASCIA Dietary Guide webpages include ReadSpeaker to improve accessibility and provide translated information.

ASCIA Schools and Childcare Anaphylaxis Training Survey

As part of the National Allergy Council Schools and Childcare project, ASCIA is conducting a survey in June 2023 to obtain feedback on anaphylaxis training for people studying and/or working in schools and children’s education/care (CEC) services. The ASCIA Schools/CEC survey can be accessed here.

Findings from this survey will be used to make recommendations about how anaphylaxis training should be provided and included in courses.

National Allergy Council Shared Care online consultation sessions

Two online sessions are open to health professionals who treat patients with these conditions, and patients with these conditions and/or their carers:

  • Monday 3 July 2023, 6.30-8.30pm AEST - Mastocytosis
  • Tuesday 11 July 2023, 6.30-8.30pm AEST – Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases (EGIDs) and Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES)

ASCIA 2023 Conference Registration and Abstract Submission

Registration and abstract submission are open for the ASCIA 2023 Conference, to be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney from Tuesday 5th to Friday 8th September 2023.

This is a hybrid conference, with in-person or virtual attendance, and on-demand viewing of sessions for all registered delegates after the conference.

Drug Allergy Survey 

Drug Allergy Survey

The RECONCILE ‘Australian survey of Multi-Disciplinary Low-Risk Penicillin Allergy delabelling’ is being conducted to explore current penicillin allergy delabelling practices performed in Australia. The results will help guide future research into improving access to antibiotic allergy delabelling pathways for all Australians.  The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete via this link
