ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training has been developed by the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA), in conjunction with the Health Departments of Western Australia and New South Wales, to provide ready access to reliable anaphylaxis education throughout Australia and New Zealand, at no charge.
Development of ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training has included an extensive review process which involved ASCIA members, Health Departments and Education Departments as well as representatives from schools, childcare services and education departments throughout Australasia.
ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training for schools and childcare services was first launched in March 2010 (Version 1.0) to provide staff with a training option where face to face training is not possible (or feasible), or as a refresher, or for interim training whilst waiting for face to face training. ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training courses can also be undertaken by parents, friends, carers or patients themselves.
ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training for school and childcare services has been updated in July 2011 (Version 2.0) and it includes the following important amendments:
- Inclusion of 2011 versions of ASCIA Action Plans for Anaphylaxis and ASCIA Action Plans for Allergic Reactions
- Inclusion of the new-look EpiPen, available from mid 2011
- Amendments to terminology to ensure consistency with revised ASCIA Action Plans and health professional training resources
Course instructions
-
A username and password must be obtatined from the e-training website registration process to participate in a course.
-
Course participants should read each module carefully then complete the quiz for each module (feedback will be provided after answering each question).
-
Modules may only be completed in order.
- Upon successful completion of the course (by achieving at least 75% in the final assessment module quiz) each participant will be able to print out a form confirming successful completion of the course. The form must be printed at the time as it cannot be accessed retrospectively.
- The course may be undertaken at the particpant's own pace but it is recommended the modules are completed within a two week period.
Note: If you choose to end a session during the Final Assessment, regardless of where you resume next session within the Final Assessment, go to the beginning of the Final Assessment and answer all questions.
-
The course remembers the last screen accessed, but only if the QUIT button is used to leave the course.
Note: If there is interruption to Internet access during any session then completed quiz answers in the Final Assessment may not be retained.
- To obtain a Certificate of Completion for ASCIA anaphylaxis e-training a result of 75% or higher is required for the Final assessment. If this result is not obtained on the first attempt, users can reattempt the course.
Note: When reattempting the course you must start at the first Introduction screen (regardless of where you re-enter the course) and complete viewing all screens and complete all quiz questions in the Final Assessment for your Certificate of completion to show your result.
- Certificate of completion must be printed at the time of generation. On the certificate screen there is a print button. Selecting this button will bring up a printer friendly certificate format that you can print immediately or save as a PDF.
The printer-friendly certificate may be printed then closed by selecting the "close window" link in the top right corner. Sign the certificate for your record.
- Following completion of the course and printing of the Certificate of Completion use the QUIT button to exit the course so that your result can be retained in the website database (remember the course certificate of completion is a dynamic fly page only and is not retained).
