The cost of allergies to the Australian economy is more than $7 billion per year, according to a report by Access Economics to be released by the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA). On average, Australians will wait between 13 and 18 weeks to see an Allergist or Clinical Immunologist. The report, “Economic Impact of Allergies’ to be released on November 13, will outline how the financial cost of allergies in 2007 was $7.8 billion, with lost productivity and health system expenditure the major contributing factors.
