EXPLANATORY NOTES

The Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) offers annual educational grants to medical students in Australia or New Zealand during their elective term, engaged in activities related to Clinical Immunology and/or Allergy.

This grant is an initiative of the local organising committee of the 2000 World Allergy Congress (WAC)*, which was held in Sydney.  These annual grants are awarded from the proceeds of this meeting.

* WAC was previously known as the International Congress of Allergology & Clinical Immunology.

• The attached application form should be completed and posted to the ASCIA Executive Officer, PO Box 450 Balgowlah NSW 2093 (and also sent electronically to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) by 30 September.
• Applicants are expected to be engaged in activities related to Clinical Immunology / Allergy either within Australia or overseas.  Clinical disorders related to the disciplines of Clinical Immunology / Allergy include allergic diseases (such as rhinitis, anaphylaxis and asthma), inherited (primary) and acquired immunodeficiencies, autoimmune diseases, connective tissue diseases and vasculitis.
• The closing date for ASCIA medical student grant applications is 30 September each year.
• All applications will be assessed by a committee including members of the ASCIA Executive and WAC 2000 organising committee.
• At the end of the elective term it is expected that successful applicants will submit a brief report on their project, which will be published in the ASCIA Annual Report.
• Applicants must be citizens of Australia or New Zealand.
• Although it will depend on applications received it is intended that there will be two "Special Project" Scholarships of $3000 each and five "Option Elective" Scholarships of $1500 each
