ASCIA Grants and Awards - Important NoticeThe significant downturn in financial markets in 2008 adversely affected the source of funding for ASCIA grants. As a result of this, in 2009 ASCIA Council decided to cease funding of ASCIA grants, to prevent further diminishing of its capital base. This decision was made with a view of being able to provide funding of ASCIA grants in the future, once a sustainable source of funding is identified. In the meantime ASCIA has provided industry funded grants and ASCIA Annual Scientific Meeting travel scholarships and awards from 2008 onwards.
From 2004 to 2008 ASCIA provided a total of $558,600 in grants, endowments and awards.
Of these funds, $325,600 was spent specifically on funding research on allergic diseases ($163,900) and immune diseases ($161,700). The source of these grants, endowments and awards was the income from investing proceeds from ASCIA meetings, and in particular the proceeds from the highly successful World Allergy Congress 2000, which was held in Sydney and hosted by ASCIA.
